Paris 2024 Olympics: How India’s sports ministry helped elite athletes Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, Mirabai Chanu prepare

During the Paris 2024 Olympics, reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu benefited most from Indian government funding.

The Sports Authority of India's (SAI) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) reports that the Indian government has spent about Rs 470 crores across 16 disciplines on Summer Games preparation before Paris.

The biggest winner was Chopra, who will defend his javelin throw gold medal in Paris. Coach Klaus Bartonietz helped Chopra become India's first Olympic medalist in track and field at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Before the Olympics, the world champion received help with training camps in three European countries and international events.

Neeraj Chopra's gold medal win in Tokyo three years ago had a big impact, as India's ministry of sports invests most in athletics.

Two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalists Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty and PV Sindhu earned major exposure through the ministry's ambitious Target Olympic Podium Scheme.
